Procentec Product Training Day

Today was the last Procentec training day for 2015 and we have a packed class of 10 attendees from companies such Sick Automation, Columbus Stainless and Xaloo Technologies. There is no charge for the training, but its recommended that one has done the certified PROFIBUS Installer Course or is already experienced with PROFIBUS.  The the course is broken into three main sections:
1) PROFIBUS network components
2) Troubleshooting with ProfiTrace
3) Preemptive maintenance with COMbricks

PROFIBUS network components is really about the cool stuff that system integrators and end-users of PROFIBUS don't know about. How to correctly wire a repeater (a common problem we find when doing callouts), using multi-channel repeaters (ProfiHub), when to use active terminators and running segment at different baud rates with ProfiSwitch is all part of the section. Learn to design your networks in a more robust manner using ProfiHubs!

Troubleshooting with ProfiTrace starts off with initializing the ProfiTrace software (licensing, etc), then the attendees quickly dive into setting up their own PROFIBUS network with ProfiCaptain. Learning what happens when loading the wrong GSD file or module configuration is all part of the fun. Different scope waveforms and the faults that cause them is also covered. Our philosophy is that if you know how to break, then you'll know how to fix it!
Preemptive maintenance with COMbricks covers the new way of running your plant. How to identify errors before they cause trips or network failures is what this section is all about. Attendees see examples of possible network layouts, segmentation and redundancy. This is ended off with a practical showing how easy it is to view your network condition remotely and on devices such as your smart phone or tablet. Watch out for next years schedule if you'd like to attend this free course!

Anybus Industrial Communication News

Anybus® CompactCom™ 40-series awarded “Best Network Technology” in Automation Inside’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2015

The Automation Inside Portal ( is a leading global resource for the automation industry, connecting buyers and suppliers in the field. Their annual Readers’ Choice Awards for 2015 has selected the Anybus CompactCom 40-series as the winner of the Best Network Technology category.

About the awards
The Automation Inside Readers’ Choice Awards 2015 gathered 30 nominated solutions from 24 automation companies and after voting by Automation Inside’s readers in 35 countries, Anybus CompactCom 40-series was recognized as “Best Network Technology 2015.”

About Anybus CompactCom 40-series
The Anybus® CompactCom™ 40-series is the latest embedded networking solution from HMS Industrial Networks. It is available in three form factors – Chip, Brick and Module – and offers multi-network connectivity through a single development project, limiting the customers’ development efforts to an absolute minimum.

The new CompactCom 40-series is based on HMS’ Anybus NP40 network processor and is especially suitable for high-end industrial applications that require fieldbus or real-time industrial Ethernet connectivity. Offering close to ”zero delay” between devices and real-time networks, the 40-series is ideal for high-performance applications such as servo drive systems, which require fast network cycles and synchronization capabilities.

“We are of course very happy to receive this award,” says Christian Bergdahl, Product Marketing Manager at HMS. “We know that we have a strong offering in our 40-series products which has been recognized before, but what is especially rewarding about this award is that it comes from Automation Inside’s readers – people working with the everyday tasks in automation. We see this as further proof that we are on the right track with Anybus embedded network communication solutions and will continue to develop cutting-edge technology that solves our customer’s network connectivity needs.”
